EDMONTON – The new Shell Aerocentre opened at the Edmonton International Airport Wednesday morning.
The Aerocentre 2 has been designed to service industrial and corporate aircraft.
“There are people that are going to work sites in Fort McMurray and in the Northwest Territories, and that’s a big part of our business, as well as the corporate aircraft that come through,” said David Robertson, YEG AeroCentre President.
The 67,200-square foot facility offers 43,200 square feet of hangar space as well as passenger lounges and office and shop space.
A larger facility was needed as the number of business passengers at the EIA continues to grow.
“The Aerocentre number 1 has been on the field since 1979. We did a major expansion to that one in 1998, and we’ve continuously been renovating. We’ve outgrown the facility,” explained Robertson.
It took two years to complete the construction of the Aerocentre.
