Please don’t water your lawn: City of Regina

REGINA – The City of Regina, struggling with water supply issues, is asking people to stop washing cars and watering lawns – and a day at the park for the kids won’t include a splash on a spray pad.

The city is now using eight back-up wells to increase the capacity of water for residents.

The well water is safe and undergoes extensive testing to ensure quality.

Because of the quality of water in Buffalo Pound Lake, the water treatment process has been impacted.

Several years of wet weather and increased runoff has produced high levels of algae in the lake.

With the warmer weather, the city is also seeing increased water use.

The city is able to meet the water needs of residents but it’s encouraging residents to conserve water by limiting unnecessary usage like lawn watering or washing vehicles.

The city will not be operating sprinklers in parks or greenspaces unless there is new sod. Also, spray pads around the city will not be activated.
