WINNIPEG – The FIFA Women’s World Cup is bringing some of the best women soccer players to Winnipeg – and lots of spectators as well.
Winnipeg hotels have been heavily booked around the June 8 match between the U.S. and Australia and people are looking for rooms outside the city, the president of the Manitoba Hotel Association told CJOB News.
“Once Winnipeg was picked as a venue, the reservations started pouring in,” said Jim Baker, president and CEO of the hotel association.

Fans are looking as far as Steinbach and Morden to find hotel rooms two weeks before the match, Baker said.
Many of the visitors are tourist from the U.S. wanting to watch their team, he said.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup will be played in Canada from June 6 to July 5 in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Ottawa, Vancouver, Moncton and Montreal. The Winnipeg games are:
- June 8 – U.S.A. versus Australia and Sweden versus Nigeria
- June 12 – Australia versus Nigeria and U.S.A. versus Sweden
- June 15 – Thailand versus Germany and China versus New Zealand
- June 16 – Ecuador versus Japan
There aren’t many tickets left for the June 6 and June 12 matches, according to Ticketmaster information.
