U.S. border patrol agent will not face charges in Sumas crossing shooting

A man was shot and killed by a U.S. Border Patrol agent on Kneuman Road just west of Sumas, south of the Canada-U.S. border, on March 19, 2015.

The U.S. border patrol agent who killed a Canadian man two months ago will not be facing any charges.

According to the Whatcom County prosecutor, the officer was “justified” in using deadly force.

Last March, a border jumper triggered ground sensors near the Sumas crossing.

The agent shot and killed him after the man pulled out a can of bear spray from his backpack.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Jamison Childress of Prince George.

After the shooting, police learned he was a Canadian who was wanted in connection with a murder of a teen in Calgary.
