West Kelowna – Highway 97 was overtaken by a group of motorcyclists today. The ‘Recovering Addicts Ride to Give Back’ raised money for local food banks in the Okanagan.
29 men and women revved up their engines for a short day trip to Osoyoos, many of them recovered drug and alcohol addicts.
“I lost everything and one of the last things that you hang on to is being able to eat at least a meal a day. So, I used the food bank in the past. One of the last things you’re going to let go of is food, you need to eat in order to survive, says Dan Plourde from the Association of Recovering Motorcyclists.

Close to $5,000 was raised from donations and local sponsorships.
“This is the equivalent of almost $15,000 for the food bank considering our buying power, its much needed for our nutrition programs all over the Okanagan,” says Tammy Jackson, of the Kelowna Community Food Bank.
While the event helps those in need, Dan Plourde says it’s also a way to help themselves.
“It’s what we do to remain clean and sober. We practice a program of recovery, we support each other but we also give back to society.”
