A design plan has been approved to widen Kenaston Boulevard to six lanes.
The city would need to acquire about 50 homes on the east side and land from the Kapyong Barracks along the west side.
More than 55,000 vehicles drive the stretch of Kenaston everyday.

The proposed design plan would cost upwards of $130 million dollars.
Council’s public works committee voted in favour of the proposed alignment by a vote of three to one.
The project still has to be approved by the executive policy committee, Wednesday, before moving to city council.
St. Boniface councillor Dan Vandal said, “We’re not giving the administration the authority to expropriate. Right now it’s a negotiation with this strategic route for the city of Winnipeg. It’s a major goods conveyor and we need to do something about Route 90.”
