Above watch: The coroner’s inquest into the death of Serena Perry continued today with details about what happened the night she died. Global’s Brion Robinson reports.
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – A coroner’s inquest has heard from the coroner who was on duty the night a young woman who was a psychiatric patient at the Saint John Regional Hospital was found dead.
Coroner Walt McKinney told the five-member jury in Saint John he was called to the hospital at 12:21 a.m. on Feb. 15, 2012.
He said Serena Perry’s body was on a gurney in the emergency department, fully clothed and covered by a blanket.
He said he learned from Perry’s doctor that the 22-year-old did not have suicidal tendencies.
He ordered an autopsy because of Perry’s young age and the sudden nature of her death.
Police said a forensic pathology exam could not confirm the cause of death.
