OLG reportedly studying building a casino in Toronto

TORONTO – The Ontario Lottery and Gaming commission is exploring the benefits of opening a casino in Toronto.

The Globe and Mail is reporting that the OLG is looking at finding new streams of revenue after declining profits at casinos in Windsor.

In fiscal 2011, the OLG contributed $1.9 billion to the province’s coffers.

The city’s administration is reportedly behind the idea – if the deal could create jobs and help build transit. Doug Ford is quoted by The Globe, saying “If it would create jobs and bring tourists, the answer is yes, and if we could get a piece of the pie it would go toward transit,” Mr. Ford said. “We need to build subways.”
