TORONTO — Environment Canada is warning that severe weather, including hail and even tornado activity may hit the Windsor and Sarnia areas Monday.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes,” a statement on the weather agency’s website said.
A watch is issued when conditions are favourable for severe weather. A warning is when hazardous weather is imminent or occurring.
Severe thunderstorms are expected in the region, developing late in the afternoon ahead of a cold front. Winds of up to 90 kilometres per hour and large hail are possible, along with a risk of a tornado.

The agency recommends people take cover immediately when threatening weather is in the area.
In the event of a tornado Environment Canada recommends the following actions:
- Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.
- Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
- As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.
Environment Canada will update the situation as required. Anyone who sees severe weather is urged to email storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet using the hashtag #ONStorm.
