Truck carrying chickens catches fire on Highway 401

TORONTO – A tractor-trailer full of live chickens caught fire on westbound Highway 401 in Mississauga early Monday morning.

The incident happened at around 2 a.m. as the truck was heading west near Mavis Rd.

Several chicken crates were scattered along the highway as crews put out the flames.

Some of the birds escaped and were found in nearby ditches.

There’s no word on what sparked the fire. Crews are still on the scene clearing the area and there are several lane restrictions in place.
