UPDATE 6:00 p.m. : The school district says students were kept in their classrooms and the building was secured because of a “possible threat,” but didn’t specify on the nature of it.
“There was a report that came in of a possible threat to the school. Clearly the police took it very seriously they did tie up a lot of resources,” says Central Okanagan School District superintendent, Hugh Gloster.

Once school officials got the okay from police, shortly after the end of the normal school day, parents were able to pick-up their kids and buses were able to run.
“The kids were safe and comfortable with their teachers and their classes and the building was definitely very secure,” says Gloster.
KELOWNA – RCMP are being tight lipped about what brought a police presence to the Belgo Elementary School area Thursday. Asked about reports the school had been locked down, police could only say that they are dealing with what appears to be a false police report. RCMP say everyone at the school is safe.
“These false police reports tie up valuable police resources that could be better used responding to where they are truly needed,” Cpl Joe Duncan. “Anyone caught making a false police report will be charged with public mischief.”
Police also wouldn’t comment on the nature of the false report. RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
