WATCH: Rob Ford lends his voice to a song to support the fight against cancer

TORONTO – Former Toronto mayor Rob Ford briefly traded in his city council seat for a spot in a recording studio to lend his voice for a song in support of the fight against cancer.

The track titled “Not My Time” features 11 indie singers brought together as a result of a talent contest orchestrated by the Rainbow Association of Canadian Artists (RACA).

“Given Rob Ford’s current bout with the disease, his celebrity status, and his previous work with Canadian musicians, he was an obvious choice for this project,” said Ralph Hamelmann, RACA Executive Director and song co-writer in a media release.

A music video for the recording featuring Rob Ford has been posted on YouTube.

The Toronto councillor has been receiving medical treatment since doctors discovered a tumour in his abdomen last September.

The 45-year-old is scheduled to undergo surgery to remove the cancerous tumor on May 11.

“Given RACA’s past hit singles and the catchiness of this song, ‘Not My Time’ should do very well,” Ford said in the media release.

“I’d ask everyone to put their politics aside and stand behind the causes this song represents.”

The music single will go on sale June 22 with proceeds being split between RACA and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Pre-orders of the track are currently available online for US$3.49.
