TORONTO – Popular Canadian retailer, La Senza, is closing many of its stores in Ontario, sources tell Global News.
Its parent company, Limited Brands, confirmed that changes are coming by mid-February for some of its 300 stores.
The retailer declined to say how many of the stores would be closed.
A Limited Brands spokesperson in Ohio said that closing underperforming stores will be the first move in the overall strategy to reposition the La Senza brand.
Limited Brands also owns Victoria’s Secret. Maureen Atkinson, a retail consultant in Toronto, believes the company may run the stores side-by-side.
“The Victoria’s Secret brand is going to be the one that they’re going to expand. It’s very much like Best Buy and Future Shop and they’re going to run those two brands side by side probably in the same malls.” Atkinson said.
La Senza was among the first Canadian retailers to offer its wares online back in December 1999.
