Sask. Fashion Week promises to push industry boundaries

REGINA – Monday marked the official kick-off to Saskatchewan Fashion Week (SFW) with the unveiling of the show’s first ever art installation.

Thirteen artists collaborated with only this year’s theme “Fashion, Nature, Art” as their inspiration. Their work will be on display at the Cornwall Centre all week.

The show’s executive director, Chris Pritchard, said in its fourth year, the week has become so much more than just a fashion show.

“It’s like this showcase or playground for all these industries to have no boundaries and go crazy,” he said.  “So, naturally, it was a great fit to bring the art community into it.”

SFW has more than doubled its capacity this year and has almost sold out every night.

Janis Prosyk is one of the designers at this year’s show and said she’s incredibly thankful there’s something like SFW in the province.

“Having that helping hand push and grow the industry, it really makes a tremendous difference,” she explained.  “Without them, there wouldn’t really be a lot of exposure to fashion in the province.  It would just be people still looking to bigger centres exploring those fashion options versus fashion on the prairies.”

There will be a number of events taking place throughout the week and for tickets you can visit SFW’s website.
