2 people dead after fiery crash near Estevan, Sask.

ESTEVAN, Sask. – Two people are dead after a fiery head-on crash in southeastern Saskatchewan on Sunday. Just after 9:15 a.m., emergency services were called to a two vehicle collision approximately 15 kilometres west of Estevan, Sask.

Investigators have confirmed that an eastbound vehicle on Highway 18 entered the westbound lane, striking a westbound semi truck hauling a trailer filled with fertilizer.

RCMP say the vehicle started on fire upon impact and was burnt beyond recognition. Estevan Fire and Rescue worked to extinguish the blaze.

The two occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been released at this time.

Paramedics treated the semi driver for minor injuries.

Highway 18 in the area was closed for 10 hours while police carried out their investigation.
