The Progressive Conservatives have lost another stronghold in the Alberta election.
Wildrose candidate Wes Taylor won the riding of Battle River-Wainwright. The riding had voted PC since 1971.

The PC’s Doug Griffiths was first elected in a 2002 by-election, and held the seat until his resignation in January.
Candidates:
- NDP – Gordon Naylor
- Progressive Conservatives – Blake Prior
- Wildrose – Wes Taylor
- Liberal – Ron Williams
