Workers injured at Toronto subway construction site

TORONTO – Two workers have been injured at a subway construction site in Toronto.

The accident took place at the York University TTC subway extension near Steeles Ave. and Jane St.

The workers, ages 42 and 26, have suffered non-life threatening injuries after being hit by a backhoe while in an open pit. Rescue crews used an industrial crane to lift one of the workers from the site.

Emergency crews are on the scene and the province’s Labour Ministry has been called in to investigate.

In October, a worker was killed at the different section of the same subway construction site when a drilling rig collapsed.
