WATCH: 4 Swedish cops break up fight on New York subway

TORONTO – It’s not a vacation if you bring your work with you but, four Swedish police officers didn’t seem to mind jumping into action when a fight broke out on a New York subway train. Their actions have not only gone viral, they’re being praised for their good looks as well.

Makrus Åsberg, Samuel Kvarzell, Eric Jansberger and Erik Naslund were visiting New York this week. On Wednesday, they were on the northbound 6 train headed for a performance of Les Miserables at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway.

Their day was interrupted when an operator at the Bleecker Street Station yelled over the train’s public address system, “Are there any police officers on the train?!” according to the New York Post.

The foursome responded and found two homeless men fighting each other. Seconds later, both men had been subdued.

“They were lying on the floor, one on top of the other,” Stockholm officer Åsberg, 25, said in a WPIX report.  “We got to make sure that nobody gets hurt – try to calm them down without hurting them.”

Video captured by a witness was posted on YouTube and has since gone viral. It has been watched over 125,000 times at the time of this writing.

The Nordic troop’s story is also trending on Twitter under the hashtag #swedishcops. Users have been praising the men for their respectful use of force — and their apparent good looks.

But the four tourists aren’t accepting the applause.

“We came here for vacation; we’ve been here one day,” Åsberg added. “We’re no heroes, just tourists.”
