CALGARY – The city says Calgarians are ‘going green’ when it comes to disposing of their Christmas trees.
Despite a national trend of more people opting for artificial trees, the number of real trees being recycles in Calgary is up 20 per cent.

The city says the increase is likely due to a new program that allows residents to simply put their tree out with their regular garbage on a pick-up day; eight collection depots across the city are also still in use.
This year, tree collection will begin next Monday. The trees will be put through a chipper and mulched to be used by Parks and Recreation.
Calgarians can get free mulch at the east landfill.
