CALGARY – Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Burrows was released from a Calgary hospital Tuesday night, but remained in the city after leaving the ice in pain during a morning skate.
Burrows did not play in a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames, who led the Western Conference quarter-final series three games to one with the victory.
“He’s been released from hospital. He won’t travel with us,” Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins said following the game. “We’ll keep him over night just to make sure everything’s good.”
Burrows abruptly left the ice in distress during the morning practice.
The 34-year-old was put on a stretcher and taken to hospital in an ambulance. The Canucks called it an upper-body injury and said an ambulance was summoned to transport Burrows to hospital for “precautionary reasons.”
“We knew he was OK,” Desjardins said.
Burrows has two assists in three playoff games and had 33 points (18-15) in 70 regular-season games.
Vancouver had recalled former Flames first-round draft pick Sven Baertschi from the AHL prior to Burrows’ injury. Baertschi skated in pre-game warmup, but didn’t play.
Linden Vey and Brandon McMillan drew in for Burrows and Brad Richardson. Desjardins did not give a reason why Richardson was scratched.
