Eastern portion of Whitemud Drive expanding to six lanes

EDMONTON – A expansion is coming to the eastern portion of Whitemud Drive.

Over the next two years, a four-kilometre stretch of the major roadway will widen to six lanes from 75 Street/66 Street to 17 Street.  The city will also be building an auxiliary lane between the 66 Street and 50 Street ramps.

The road currently is two lanes in each direction east of the 75 Street/66 Street overpass. The expansion will add a lane on each side.

The new lanes will be built over an existing grass median and a concrete median barrier will be added.

The city said the expansion is being done to meet greater traffic demands and maintain roadway safety.

The City of Edmonton is hosting an information session for residents, business owners and area stakeholders to learn about the project, construction and traffic impacts.
