Subban won’t be suspended for slash in Game 1: report

WATCH: P.K. Subban given game misconduct for slashing in Game 1 vs Senators

TORONTO – P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens will not be suspended for a two-handed slash to the right hand of Ottawa Senators forward Mark Stone during the first game of the playoff series in Montreal Wednesday night, according to a report.

Pierre Lebrun, an NHL columnist for ESPN, reported in a tweet that the NHL’s head disciplinarian won’t be mulling a possible suspension for Subban and considered the game misconduct handed down during the game sufficient.

Subban was given a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct at 8:23 of the second period, when he brought his stick down hard on Stone’s right hand.

Stone dropped, clutching his hand, but was back on the bench a few minutes later after getting checked out.

Ottawa head coach Dave Cameron had called for a suspension following his team’s 4-3 loss to the Habs, saying the NHL had two choices, suspend Subban or only give a Senators player a similar penalty when they retaliate.

“I think it’s quite simple,” Cameron said during a press conference following the game. “It’s a vicious slash on an unprotected part of his body, and you either do one of two things. I think it’s an easy solution: You either suspend him, or one of their best players gets slashed and you just give us five. It’s not that complicated.”
