EDMONTON — Injuries have put the breaks on Oilers Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov attending the upcoming World Hockey Championship.

Forward Nail Yakupov won’t be attending Russia’s training camp because of a hip injury. The decision was made after Yakupov met with Oilers’ medical staff.

“Nail has been suffering from bilateral hip injuries this season and after further examination and MRI imaging, he requires additional treatment and rehabilitation,” said the team’s head physician, Dr. Dhiren Naidu.

Officials say his injury requires more time to heal and so he won’t be able to participate.

Nugent-Hopkins missed the team’s last three regular season games.

He was drafted first overall in 2011 and is second in points this year behind Jordan Eberle.
