WINNIPEG – A man killed in a fire at a farm near Halbstadt, Man., on Monday, has been identified by neighbors and friends as Harvey Zacharias.
Carman and Altona RCMP responded to a report of a fire at the farm in the rural municipality of Rhineland just before 4 p.m. Monday. The flames burned a home and outbuildings in an area about the size of two football fields, RCMP said in a news release.
The body of a badly burned man was found on the property.
Neighbors tell Global News they spotted a large plume of smoke around 3 pm Monday afternoon. When several rushed to see if they could help, they discovered Zacharias.
RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner are investigating, but the fire doesn’t appear to be suspicious, the news release said.
