OTTAWA — They sat in the Senate together, were kicked out of the Conservative caucus and then suspended together. Now, Patrick Brazeau and Mike Duffy have simultaneous criminal trials — and at least one is showing support for the other.

“It’s news to me and it isn’t something we’ve arranged,” he said.
Sitting in the back of the court room Thursday, Brazeau was seen taking notes during the third day of Duffy’s trial.
Brazeau is on trial in Gatineau, Que., for assault and sexual assault charges connected to an alleged incident two years ago. He will be in Ottawa court beginning June 1, for a preliminary hearing into charges of fraud and breach of trust stemming from his Senate expense claims.
Duffy is on trial in Ottawa, facing 30 charges of fraud and breach of trust, and a single count of bribery. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
