Pedestrian killed at Garden City intersection Tuesday night

WINNIPEG – A man was hit and killed by a truck on McPhillips Street just south of Jefferson Avenue on Tuesday night.

The death was the second pedestrian fatality of the day after a woman died when a Winnipeg Transit bus hit her at the intersection of Keewatin Street and Burrows Avenue at about 9 a.m.

The man killed Tuesday evening had almost reached the sidewalk when he was hit by a pickup truck in the curb lane at about 11 p.m., police said. It appears he’d run eastward across the street and was hit by a northbound truck, a news release said.

He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The northbound lanes of McPhillips and Jefferson were closed for more than seven hours to allow police to investigate. They reopened shortly before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
