TORONTO — Production of the big-budget comic book adaptation Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds is literally stopping traffic in the actor’s hometown of Vancouver this month.

Director Tim Miller started shooting a highway stunt scene over the Easter weekend on the Georgia Viaduct — a bridge connecting downtown Vancouver with communities to the east.

The elaborate scene, which involves crashed vehicles, explosions and gunfire, will shut down the busy artery until April 18 from 5 am to 3 pm on weekdays and from 5 am to 8 pm on weekends.

Reynolds — like any good Canadian — apologized for the inconvenience.

Plenty of photos of the Deadpool shoot are appearing online, although most show Reynolds’ stunt double, not the star himself. (Reynolds was in Seattle on Saturday.)

Last week, photos emerged from a Deadpool shoot at Arch Alley that showed Reynolds as Deadpool alter ego Wade Wilson, the disfigured mercenary from Marvel Comics.

Reynolds has been fairly active on Twitter since returning to his birthplace. On Sunday, he posted a photo taken with a fan dressed as his character and on Tuesday he was answering questions from fans using his famous sense of humour.

Reynolds first portrayed Deadpool in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The 38-year-old actor — who recently became a father with his wife, actress Blake Lively — played the title character in 2011’s Green Lantern, which was slammed by critics. It made about $220 million worldwide.
