A video posted to YouTube by Curtis Johnson on March 28 shows dramatic footage of a snowmobiler being hit by an avalanche, buried under the snow and then minutes later, rescued. The avalanche comes around the 20-second mark
It’s a rare opportunity to see the perspective of someone caught in avalanche and then rescued.
Curtis Johnson, an experienced snowmobiler from Sicamous, was wearing a helmet-mounted camera when he was sledding near Blue Lake recently.
While going uphill, he got stuck in a sidehill – and then the snow came down on him.
Luckily, he was with three other snowmobilers who were able to rescue him quickly and free him completely within ten minutes. It’s estimated the slide was about 20 metres wide.
