KELOWNA — After saying earlier this week that the case was closed, investigators now say a townhouse fire in Rutland last week was deliberately set.
The fire happened just after midnight last Sunday in the 100 block of Kneller Road, when flames broke out in front of one of the units. It spread to a pick-up truck before the owners could drive it out of harm’s way.
Residents used garden hoses to douse the flames until fire fighters arrived, but some of the flames climbed to the attic, causing heavy damage to the home.
The three people living in the unit got out safely.
Initially, fire investigators said they couldn’t find the ignition source and that the cause was deemed as undetermined.
