West Kelowna – Long time West Kelowna fire chief Wayne Schnitzler has been a familiar face in times of trouble. However, now there is a changing of the guard going on at West Kelowna Fire and Rescue.
Schnitzler’s retirement officially goes into effect today. After serving as chief in West Kelowna for nineteen years, his departure is leaving incoming fire chief Jason Brolund with big shoes to fill.

“Wayne brought a really calmness to the job,” says Brolund. “It didn’t matter what he was facing, and they’ve faced some very difficult situations here in the past, Wayne was able to face that with calmness and that calmness spread into the community as well.”
Brolund is a former deputy fire chief with the Kelowna Fire Department and has already been on the job in West Kelowna for a few days.
