Peguis elects Cindy Spence as first woman chief

WINNIPEG — For the first time, a woman has been elected chief of the Peguis First Nation, north of Winnipeg.

Cindy Spence defeated incumbent Glenn Hudson in voting Wednesday.

Besides Spence, three of the four councillors elected are also women.

The community of 10,000 about 160 kilometres north of Winnipeg holds elections every two years.
