OTTAWA – Talk about checking out.
Even the clock in the Peace Tower ground to a halt Friday as MPs and Senators on Parliament Hill cleared out for the holidays.
Public Works says it was called in to fix an electric switch that had stopped the bells inside the iconic tower from chiming every 15 minutes.

The rare outage lasted at least 30 minutes, after which workers wound the clock’s minute hand forward to 12:01 p.m., the correct time.
Coincidentally, Public Works employees also extinguished the Centennial Flame at the request of RCMP officers concerned about a large protest group.
With Parliament dark until the end of January, the Peace Tower clock may have just been getting into the holiday spirit – marking just the third time in seven years the timepiece has quit.
