Impaired driving charges are lower near TTC stations

TORONTO — Every postal code containing a TTC subway or LRT station has a lower than average amount of impaired driving charges.

Using an access-to-information request, Global News obtained a file from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation showing the first three characters of the postal codes of Ontario residents convicted of impaired driving between June 2010 and June 2011. We also obtained the total number of drivers by postal area to establish a rate. The province-wide average was 1.7 per 1,000.

Every TTC subway or LRT station is located in a postal code with impaired driving rates below the provincial average.
