NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. – A man is facing a number of charges after an armed stand-off with police on Sunday in North Battleford, Sask. Mounties were called to a residence the 600-block of 102nd Street around 4 p.m. after receiving a report of an intoxicated man threatening to harm himself.
He also threatened to take a hostage and harm police and ambulance personnel if they showed up at the residence.

Mounties set up a perimeter around the residence and began negotiations with the man. It ended five hours later when he surrendered to officers.
No injuries were reported.

The 39-year-old man is facing at least eight charges:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Possession of a firearm contrary to order
- Using a firearm in the commission of offence
- Careless use of firearm
- Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition
- Assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
The unnamed man is scheduled to make his first appearance in North Battleford provincial court on Tuesday morning.
