TORONTO – A Canadian solider, his wife, and 7-month-old son were among the five people killed during a fiery weekend crash on Interstate 95 in South Carolina.
Private Jeremiah Cross, 34, and his wife Crystal, were driving with their son Grayson, when they were involved in the accident.
A spokesperson for the Canadian Forces confirmed Cross was a private with 2 Service Battalion stationed out of CFB Petawawa.
Canadian Forces spokesperson Captain Jeremy Mathews called the incident “tragic.”
Local media outlets reported the accident happened Saturday night in the northbound lanes of the busy interstate highway in Florence County. Police are still investigating the accident, which reportedly involved five vehicles including two tractor trailers.
Reports claim two of the vehicles involved in the crash caught fire.
Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken identified the other victims as Jacqueline McCann, 51, and Barry Himes, 52, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
The accident blocked the northbound lanes of the interstate for roughly 12 hours.
