KELOWNA – Carmelis cheese farm has become well known for its wide variety of goat cheese and gelato but these days there’s an even bigger attraction at the Kelowna farm.
Baby goats are roaming the property at the end of Lakeshore Road and that alone is getting the farm plenty of attention.

Ofri Barmor got into the goat cheese business a bit by accident back in her homeland of Israel. Her daughter is lactose intolerant and the goat cheese she found on the market was often made with a mix of cow’s milk, which made her daughter sick.
“So we bought goat milk from a farmer and tried to make cheese at home. It was a lot of fun,” says Barmor.
However, it wasn’t until a visit to the Okanagan in 2002 she realized this was the place she could make business boom.
“I think because nothing goes better with wine than cheese and we are in wine country and we are cheese makers,” she says.
