Mayor of Kent injured in motorcycle accident

The Mayor of the District of Kent is recovering in hospital after crashing his motorcycle Friday afternoon.

John Van Laerhoven was driving his motorcycle south of the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge on Highway 9 when the crash happened just before noon. There were no other vehicles involved.

Van Laerhoven was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries. He’s expected to make a full recovery.

Highway 9 was closed for several hours while the RCMP investigated.

The district of Kent, located to the north of Chilliwack, has a population of just under 6,000 people.
