A Surrey house was gutted by a two-alarm fire Saturday morning.

Firefighters received a report at 5:30 a.m. of a fire at 28 Ave. and 174A St. and arrived to find a home fully engulfed in flames.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

According to Surrey Fire Battalion Chief Ed Wells, the house was in a relatively isolated area, so it may have been burning a while before firefighters were notified.

Wells says the unoccupied building is a “total loss.”

An investigation is underway but, according to Wells, there are no early indications of anything suspicious.
