WINNIPEG — With the rise in temperatures Winnipeg’s waterways are becoming more and more dangerous.
In an email release Wednesday afternoon the city of Winnipeg reminds Winnipeggers to “exercise caution around bodies of water”.
Ice on all of the city’s waterways including the floodway, drainage ditches and culverts, streams, creeks, retention ponds, and rivers is becoming dangerously thin. The water underneath is still very cold and falling into the freezing waters could be deadly.
Parents and teachers should warn children not to play near bodies of water.
For more information on thin ice safety visit the Winnipeg Police Service River Patrol page.
