Motorcycle caught travelling 211 km/hr on Trans-Canada Highway

CALGARY – Police have laid charges against a motorcyclist caught travelling 100 km/h over the speed limit on the Trans-Canada Highway.

A Cochrane RCMP officer spotted the man around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, near the intersection with Highway 40 (Kananaskis Trail).

He was clocked travelling 211 km/h; the posted speed limit is 110 km/h.

“Crashing at that speed would have been catastrophic for this individual, not to mention the lives of others put at risk,” said Sergeant Dave Hardy of the Cochrane Integrated Traffic unit.

RCMP charged a 26-year-old Calgary man with exceeding the posted speed limit and careless driving.

“Intercepting this individual at this speed is certainly cause for concern at any time of the year, not to mention there are still some remnants of winter left on the highway including sudden wet/icy sections and graveled shoulders,” adds Hardy.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Provincial Traffic Court on May 8th, 2015.
