EDMONTON – The Alberta government says it will add or upgrade sprinkler systems and other fire safety measures in 75 seniors lodges.
The province plans to do the same in 30 government-owned or supported continuing-care spaces.

The changes are to take place over three years and cost $80 million.
Seniors Minister Jeff Johnson says the changes are critical to make sure seniors feel safe in their homes.
The money is coming primarily from the Alberta Social Housing Corp.
Most of the 24,000 government-owned and supported seniors units in Alberta were built before fire sprinklers became mandatory.
