Global News spoke with the victim’s mother, who who lives in the complex.
“Everybody is okay… and that’s all that matters.”
Fire crews say damage was confined to the unit where the fire originated.
“There is significant damage in the suite, it will be a while before anyone can reoccupy that one,” said Battalion Chief John Cherweniuk. “But it looks like the surrounding suites are okay.”
The Calgary Fire Department says about 50 people were forced from the building as they worked to extinguish the fire. They were kept warm in several Calgary Transit buses.
