High River school damaged by flood back up and running

HIGH RIVER, Ab – Students at a High River school were finally able to return to their facility on Tuesday, after being forced from the building due to devastating flooding nearly two years ago.

About 400 students at Holy Spirit Academy were forced into makeshift classrooms in June of 2013 when floodwaters submerged the pre-Kindergarten to Grade Six elementary school.

Dozens of brightly dressed kids were treated to a number of new sights when school started at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, including eight new modular classrooms.

Officials say there is still work to be done to improve their playground. The lower bench play area has been dismantled and awaits a new ground surface and installation during the summer months.
