HALIFAX – By next winter, skaters at the Emera Oval will have a brand new facility in which to rent equipment, rest and warm up.
Global News has obtained the building plans for the Oval’s new permanent pavilion. The city has issued a tender for its construction, with the deadline for completion set for Nov. 31, 2015.
Contained beneath a modern, angular roof will be will two buildings. One will be for maintenance equipment like ice resurfacing machines; the other will be open to the public.
Construction diagrams show space for helmet and skate rental racks, a lounge area and washrooms. A gender neutral washroom is also included in the plans.
A public consultation about the design took place Feb. 13, 2013, seeking input from residents and Oval users.
Bidding for the construction tender closes March 12.
