Canadians can now watch BBC programs on their iPads with Global iPlayer app

TORONTO – Canadians can now watch hit BBC programs, including “Doctor Who” and “Absolutely Fabulous,” on their iPads.

BBC Worldwide has launched its Global iPlayer, which gives Canadian users access to over 1,500 hours of BBC programs spanning a variety of genres.

The company says the free app grants users access to an archive of BBC programming tailored especially for Canadian viewers.

The Global iPlayer will also exclusively feature the medical drama “Holby City.”

The app is free to download and provides access to 30 select programs a month. For $8.99 a month or $84.99 a year, users get unlimited access to all the content.

Subscribers can stream shows with Wi-Fi or 3G connections, download shows for offline viewing, and build a personal library of shows.

BBC Worldwide says Canada is the 16th country to launch the Global iPlayer, which is still in its pilot phase.
