KELOWNA – Tuesday’s provincial budget contained some good news for the BC SPCA and its Kelowna facility.
The government will provide $5 million to the animal care agency for its eight year, $50.4 million Facilities Development and Services Plan.
The Chief Executive Officer of the BC SPCA, Craig Daniell, says about $250,000 of that will go towards building a facility on its Kelowna property to care for large animals, such as horses and livestock.
Currently, when large animal seizures are made in the area the animals are boarded out.
Daniell says a ground-breaking event will be held at the end of March and they hope to begin construction shortly afterwards.
He says future plans for the Kelowna shelter are to build a facility for taking care of wildlife.
