Christmas is a special time for Generations Foundation

MONTREAL – Christmas is a special time for the Generations Foundation. Starting in late November, boxes for collecting food and toys are placed in locations across Montreal.

Individuals and businesses are invited to donate new toys that will later be distributed to children throughout the city.

When the toy drive is complete, dozens of volunteers from various organizations, including Global Montreal, wrap and personally name donated new toys with tender loving care. Last year, the Foundation was able to deliver more than 4,000 gifts!

Generous donations from local businesses and the general public are a vital part of this initiative.

This year, Mega Bloks kicked off the Toy Drive with a generous donation of 1500 toys.

Generations Foundation develops and administers programs that help improve the quality of life for Montrealers of all ages. Due to the high level of child poverty in Canada and particularly in Montreal, the focus is often on children.

Experience has proven that when children are fed healthy meals and snacks, they are more productive in class and achieve better academic results. Generations Foundation provides nutritious breakfasts, hot lunches and healthy snacks every day to over 6,500 children in 61 schools and 11 learning centres in Montreal.

The results are astonishing and feedback from the professionals makes it clear that Generations Foundation is making a significant difference in the lives of Montreal children.

In 2010, 6700 students in Montreal required food on a daily basis. To meet this demand, Generations Foundation provided:

– 28,000 hot meals
– 600,000 other meals and snacks
– 130,000 milk deliveries
– 180,000 fruit juices

Generations Foundation receives no government assistance, nor are children or their parents asked to pay a fee for meals.

The charity is run entirely on the generosity of caring individuals who offer Generations Foundation their support through donations or as a volunteer.

There is no question that this generosity is greatly appreciated and no one can express this better than a child whose life has been touched by the kindness of others:

“I wanted to let you know that we appreciate what you have done for us. You have brought us days of joy, a perfect turkey dinner and a present for everyone. We will always remember your kindness towards us and once again we want to let you know that we appreciate what you have done for us. Thank you. Have a very merry Christmas.”
