UPDATE: Christmas tree with balloons found in Central Okanagan NOT the same one from video

UPDATE: Earlier reports that a local farmer found the Christmas tree that was released during a scavenger hunt Sunday turned out to be false. While the Oyama family discovered a tree with helium balloons, it was found on Friday.
No word on the origin of this flying Christmas tree. The tree set afloat Sunday has yet to be found.

A day after RCMP were alerted to a runaway Christmas tree a CHBC News viewer e-mailed to tell us she found the balloons and tree in a horse pen on her property.

The story of the airborne Christmas tree started on Sunday when the tree was a prop in a ‘digital scavenger hunt’, called ‘The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World has ever seen.’

Participants have to take pictures of unusual objects.

The small, decorated Christmas tree was accidentally launched from a parking lot near Baron Road and Hwy 97 at about 5 pm.

A number of large helium balloons were tied to the tree, providing enough ‘lift’ to get it off the ground, the 5 foot tall tree was originally tethered to the ground and was supposed to float in one place.

When the people behind the stunt saw their tree float toward the airport, they called the RCMP, who in turned notified the airport.

Luckily the tree did not drift into restricted air space and did not pose a threat to airplane traffic.

RCMP describe the incident as an accident and say no charges will be laid.
