Winnipeggers spend Louis Riel Day outdoors despite chilly temperatures

WINNIPEG — Across the province Manitobans were able to spend this Monday with family on Louis Riel Day. There was no shortage of options to celebrate the day if you were willing to brave the cold; and many Winnipeggers were.

The Forks had activities throughout the day including a big soccer game on the ice, free hot chocolate and skating on the river trail. Many people who were a part of the festivities told Global News that the holiday is a great day to spend quality time with family.

Festival Du Voyageur also brought in big crowds. Organizers said Monday was expected to be one of the festival’s busiest days drawing thousands of visitors. Festival will continue the celebrations with food, music and dancing until next weekend.
