Power out for much of Yaletown due to equipment failure
A blown power line in Yaletown has darkened much of the neighbourhood for hours, with many businesses closing for the evening.
It happened just after 3 p.m. today on Hamilton street, shutting down power between Drake Street, Richards Street, Pacific Boulevard, Cambie Street and Nelson Street. BC Hydro has said power will be restored sometime 8 and 10 p.m.
The outage has forced many businesses to shut down for the evening.

No power in all of Yaletown east of Homer Street! Looks like it will likely be out for the rest of the afternoon…..been texting clients to try and rebook them! And yes that's Noriko, determined to finish her regular client who was already in the chair for his weekly shave and cut! 💈 #barbershop #yaletown #vancouver #powerout #nopower #fridaythe13th #norikothebarber #trooper #farzadsbarbershop #yaletownbarbers #vancouverbarbers #barberlife #workinginthedark #gettingthejobdone #determination #btcpics #barbersofinstagram #internationalbarbers
However, some appear to be making the most of the situation.
The frustrating situation for many businesses caused Pino Posteraro, chef at Cioppino’s Mediterranean Grill, to vent online.
“Perhaps instead of bike lanes money should be stirred towards underground power line?,” he wrote.
“Is there anymore ways to damage a business? Pre-Valentine dinners and they say power now back at 22:00?”
Still others found humour in the situation.
